"long lost love"
words & music by ron leary © 2008
this is an ode to you
to let you know how i love you
there ain’t no way to
get away from you
i read your letters everyday
trace the words you said
and the pain that it brings
covers for my sins
long lost love
long lost love
i can’t kill you with
nothing less than my death
each face i see
every smile reminds me
oh the days how they drag
this longing never fades
cause no effort can change
the mistakes i made
long lost love
long lost love
oh so long my love
as you roll
you’re gone
you’re gone for good
erase this mind of our time
and your eyes
you’re gone
you’re gone for good

a safe haven for the not so sane
escape the mainstream put yourself on display
oh the bookshelf it is leaning to the left
fair trade coffee it’s pouring like a deep oil well
change the world, change the world
right here at the communist café
change the world, change the world
strip that white man of his capital to spend
down with the system that is the stated goal
twenty-one year olds bond together take down this world
headquartered in a small northern town
the epicentre of that big ol storm that’s bound to come
change the world, change the world
right here at the communist café
change the world, change the world
strip that white man of his capital to spend
waiting for the revolution to come
around the round table discussin what needs to be done
we must turn things upside down
keep the lights down low til the explosion’s begun
change the world, change the world
right here at the communist café
change the world, change the world
strip that white man of his capital goods

Miles

"miles"

miles in the street
born that way
three fights a week
black eyes like you never seen
left alone
father drunk every day
mother’s off with another
he’s got a child on the way
oh you know how it goes
just like fate
from days of youth
destined for a desperate life
ain’t no jobs for his kind
down on the line
have to find a way
have to fight to stay alive
he shot a man
in the back one day
didn’t seem to care
expected it was coming his way
now how to love this man
is it ever too late
can’t erase time
but why go kill another man
is your heart in your eyes
for love might save a life
is your heart in your eyes
for love might save a life
a life

"that guy"
words & music by ron leary © 2006
you know that guy
in the town
who plays those songs
it seems like
he don’t do much at all
just hangin around
every town
so familiar
just like those hounds
who’ll drag you down
sewn into
the life
of the downtown most nights
ain’t got a friend
but you can count on him
the familiar face
to spill your life
every town
so familiar
just like those hounds
who’ll drag you down
every town
so familiar
just look around
your town

"the new girl who’s causing a stir"
words & music by ron leary © 2007
just arrived on the train from outta town
she travelled on her own
don’t know what’s in store but back home
so little hope
for a girl to grow
look around take in all the sights and sounds
of this strange new town
she’s the new girl she’s causing a stir
she’s the new girl she’s causing a stir
stars align begin the fight
sharpen up the claws and hope to hold her tight
here’s the chance, clean that slate
stuff all the baggage in the closet real tight
she’s the new girl she’s causing a stir
she’s the new girl she’s causing a stir
he swoops in with the ease of flight
makes the first strike and leaves the rest behind
jealousy blows off the roof
and they’re all just waitin for him to make a wrong move
she’s the new girl she’s causing a stir
she’s the new girl she’s causing a stir
she’s the new girl she’s causing a stir
she’s the new girl she’s causing a stir

"down the highway (part ii)"
words & music ron leary © 2006
the rollin hum of the transport trucks
as they’re entering the gateway to the usa
shakin my windows, leavin their soot
gonna go make some goods and sell em back to us
escape the watchful eyes of the small town mind
and the heavy hand from just above the poverty line
take a chance on the 401
and hope you don’t get crushed
drivin down the highway
a cross stands tall remindin
the life it gives it can take away
driftin off may wind you up dead
it took my grandfather and uncle away
leavin fatherless sons
all the while that asshole lived
to drink another day
oh the peacefulness of the wide open road
pulls you along through the hillside
to the right cows graze
remindin of simpler times
drivin down the highway
a cross stands tall remindin
the life it gives it can take away
driftin off may wind you up dead

"for the woman"
words & music by ron leary © 2008
for the woman i love
i have to give
to that woman
what i have is true
i ain’t got no money
i ain’t got no time
except for her
watch the days fly by
darker each time
watchin days
keep goin by
but with a smile
with her heart
she takes mine
for the woman i love
i have to give
to that woman
what i have is true
i ain’t got no money
i ain’t got no time
except for her
ain’t got no money
ain’t got no time
except for her

Sitting On A Bench

"sitting on a bench"
words & music by ron leary © 2008
sittin on a bench
with some dead man’s name carved in
contemplatin life
in the scorchin hot sun
it’s a lonely man’s paradise
down by the riverside
beatin down the path folks
tryin to get themselves in shape again
always meant to invest in a pair of shades
cover up the eyes and wherever they gaze
oh i know it ain’t right
just keep breakin my neck each time
she passes by
there goes another one
there’s always another one
and they always just keep goin by
bye bye
you know there’s folks sittin at home
with their curtains all drawn closed
pullin on a sweater
tryin to warm up those air-conditioned bones
but hey why not turn on the nature station
and remind yourself there are birds in the sky
and people outside livin normal lives
just sittin on a bench
with some dead man’s name carved in

Legacy

"legacy"
words & music by ron leary © 2008
it’s a god damn shame
it’s a god damn shame
this legacy that we’re leavin behind
it’s a god damn shame
it’s been a hundred years for this old place
standin in the fields
yield after yield
but they’re gonna tear it down
bulldoze it to the ground
the city it’s a burstin at the seams
each town looks like the next
to the right and to the left
turn the lights on bright
lighten up the night
but the glowin on the screens of the television scenes
they flicker while the minds they turn to mush
the trucks they drive all night
so their cargos can arrive barely just in time
for the buying kind
but you know it won’t be long
for these fashions they all turn
and the earth begins to rise into the sky
the debate it is declinin
by the big men who’re decidin
what is best and right
it’s where their interests lie
but the truth it’s worth exposin
for these crooks they are deservin
their place amongst the devil’s of the time
